Malacanang declares May 13, 2013 as a special non-working holiday in the entire Philippines.
The declaration will enable all registered Filipino voters to go to their election precint and vote during the 2013 National and Local Elections. According to the Commission on Elections, there are about 52 million registered voters this year.
According to the government's official website at www.gov.ph, Philippines President Benigno Aquino III signed Proclamation No. 571, s. 2013, declaring May 13 as a special public holiday.
Filipinos will vote for a total of 18,050 new officials for a six-year term. The candidates will vie for 12 Senate seats, legislative and executive positions in 80 provinces, 143 cities and 14,091 municipalities.

Proclamation No. 571, s. 2013MALACAÑAN PALACEMANILABY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINESPROCLAMATION NO. 571DECLARING MONDAY, 13 MAY 2013, AS A SPECIAL PUBLIC (NON-WORKING) HOLIDAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRYWHEREAS, the national and local elections shall be held on Monday, 13 May 2013;
WHEREAS, Monday, 13 May 2013 should be declared a special public (non-working) holiday to enable the people to properly exercise their right of suffrage.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BENIGNO S. AQUINO, III, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law do hereby declare Monday, 13 May 2013, as a special public (non-working) holiday throughout the country.
