A 1913 US nickel was sold for over $3.1 million (including all other charges) during a rare coin and currency auction in Schaumburg, Chicago On Thursday, April 25, 2013. Two men, from Lexington, Kentucky and Panama City,Florida, partnered and won the bidding.
The century-old coin, with a Liberty Head on it, was earlier declared as a fake 1913 nickel. It's original owner reportedly, who died in a car crash, left the nickel in a Virginia closet for 41 years .
The $3.1M rare nickel sold on Thursday is reportedly one of the five existing coins of its kind. You may have one of the four other nickels in your possession. It will surely make you an instant millionaire.
Four Virginia residents reportedly placed the rare nickel on the selling block. Auction experts earlier predicted that the 1913 nickel will fetch up to $2.5 million. The nickel ended up selling at $3,172,500.
