53 King Cobras in Car Seized in Vietnam

About 53 King Cobras in a car was seized by Vietnam authorities in Hanoi on Monday, April 22, 2013.

Reports say that after being stopped by authorities, the driver of the car said that he was paid to deliver the snakes that were placed in a bag. He reportedly received $50 for the transport service.

However, no further details on where and to whom the 53 King Cobras will be transported. The driver was taken into police custody.



The King Cobras were all taken to a wildlife center. Authorities say that these snakes will be released later into the wild.

Authorities believed that these Cobras will be taken into a restaurant that offers these kind of delicacy.

The skin of the 53 King Cobras would have ended up as belts and shoes. in parts of Vietnam, so it’s possible the snakes were destined for a harsh fate before being rescued. They are also sought for their exotic skin, which is turned into items such as belts and shoes.

Hunting and selling King Cobras is prohibited in Vietnam.
