Fake AP Tweet: White House Explosion News on Twitter Sends Market Down

AP Twitter Hacked, sends stocks down

A fake Associated Press tweet saying that there was a White House explosion, has sent the stock market plummeting on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. It turned out that AP Twitter account was hacked.

According to the Twitter message, US President Barack Obama was injured after two explosions hit the White House.

The camp of President Obama quickly denied any truth to the shocking message. Obama's Press Secretary Jay Carney immediately sent a reassurance to media that "The President is fine."

Dow Jones investors reacted on the fake tweet. It went down quickly by 100 points.

An AP Editor later confirmed by tweeting, “Please Ignore AP Tweet on explosions, we’ve been hacked.”

As of posting the AP Twitter account has been disabled.

Over the weekend, CBS News also came under heavy attack from hackers.
