A giant yellow rubber duck started floating in the busy Victoria Harbour of Hong Kong on Thursday, May 4, 2013. The free public art will be on display at the harbor until June 9.

When inflated, the giant rubber duck reportedly reaches a height of 16.5 meters (54 feet). It was designed by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman.

The giant art display was a welcome addition in the Hong Kong harbor and has attracted thousands of visitors in the area. It added a good view alongside the city skyline.

This giant rubber duck has floated in several cities around the world. It was previously displayed in the waters of Osaka, Sydney, Sao Paolo and Amsterdam.

In a statement, Hofman explained,

I've wanted to come for years -- and my duck made it here before me! Hong Kong has been changed forever.

I see it as an adult thing. It makes you feel young again. It refers to your childhood when there was no stress or economic pressure, no worry about having to pay the rent.

If it makes you smile, then that's OK, but maybe it makes you cry because of the urban environment. I make work not to give answers but to question things," said the 36-year-old father of three.

Hofman is encouraging everyone to see his creation. "Be amazed, be creative. Look at it with your eyes and absorb the energy of the work in this location," he said.

After the Hong Kong display, this giant rubber duck will be landing in the United States. No further details has been revealed yet because Hofman is keeping it "confidential.

In relation to the floating giant rubber duck display, organizers say that there will be a free exhibition in the following areas:
